Privacy and your information
How this practice handles the information you give us, under the Protection of Personal Information Act.
Who we are
This site belongs to the ophthalmology practice of Dr Jeshal Patel, Suite 210, Block A, Mediclinic Brits, 8 Church Street, Brits, 0250. You can reach us on 012 252 8018 or at info@eye-care.co.za.
What this website collects
The site itself sets no cookies, runs no advertising, and does not track you. There is nothing here that follows you to other websites.
If you use the message form on the contact page, it opens your own email programme with the message ready to send. Nothing is stored on this website. We receive your message as an ordinary email.
What we do with what you send
We use the name, phone number, email address and message you send us to answer you, and if you become a patient, to arrange and provide your care and to deal with your medical aid.
We do not sell it, and we do not use it for marketing.
Your medical records
Clinical records are separate from this website. They are kept confidential as the law and medical ethics require, and are shared only where your care needs it — with a doctor we refer you to, for example — or where the law requires it. Your medical aid receives what it needs to process a claim.
How long we keep it
General enquiries that do not lead to an appointment are kept only as long as we need them to deal with the enquiry. Clinical records are kept for the period required of medical practitioners in South Africa.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and object to how we use it. Write to us at info@eye-care.co.za or phone the rooms.
If you are not satisfied with how we have dealt with your request, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
A note on email
Ordinary email is not a secure way to send medical information. Please do not send us detailed clinical information, photographs of your eye, or copies of test results by email unless we have asked you to. Phone the rooms instead.
Before this page goes live: POPIA requires a practice to appoint an Information Officer and register them with the Information Regulator. That is normally the owner of the practice. If you have registered, add the name and contact details here. If you have not, this is worth sorting out — it applies whether or not you have a website.
